TRUMP NEWS OF THE WEEK BOILED DOWN:

• Donald Trump’s poll numbers plummeted, following his bizarre response to the Orlando mass murders — his numbers fell 9 points.
• GOP is more than mildly panicked, and the highest ranking Republican, Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, has said that “Republicans in the House are free to follow their “conscience” on Trump” and that the last thing he would do is tell anybody to do something that’s contrary to their conscience.
• Paul Ryan is also the head of the GOP Convention, and if he tells the Delegates to “follow their conscience” that could very well lead to a contested convention.  See this NY Times article on how that would work.
• Conservative writer says GOP should win a “Darwin Award” for backing Trump, The Washington Free Beacon’s Matthew Continetti warns that the Republican Party is destroying itself, “By supporting the least qualified, least knowledgeable, most unsuited major-party nominee for president in history, they are engaged in an ‘astounding misapplication of judgment.’ Every week that Donald Trump remains the Republican nominee, the party comes closer to removing itself from the presidential gene pool. Self-selection is at work here. Trump’s supporters are choosing their party’s demise.”
• Trump’s Campaign is not an actual campaign, as he is drastically understaffed, seems to have no organization or fundraising that will be needed to run a competitive campaign, and no coherent messaging.  He has not integrated his presidential campaign into the RNC.  Check out this Salon article.
